Developing racing simulations means lots of
travelling and countless hours spent documenting the
real thing in every detail. The models of cars and
tracks have to be accurate in every detail, and the
performance of the cars must match the real life
counterparts.
A racetrack is an almost organic entity,
constantly changing as the seasons roll on. New tarmac
is put down, curbs are replaced, whole corners may be
slightly changed, new pit facilities pop up and new
alternative track configurations are created... so even
if we already know a track we still need to document
these changes for the artists and modellers.
This work can't be done behind a desk, so the
SimBin reference team are always on the go. Armed with
cameras, videocameras, sound recorders and notebooks,
they are present whereever the FIA WTCC racers go,
creating an unrivalled reference library for our
development team to use. Unlike the drivers, we don't
cut any corners.
Here is a few glimpses behind the scenes, hopefully
giving you a glimpse of the tough but exiting job of our
reference team. This section will be continually
updated, so come back for more.
