The World Touring Car Championship on its own is a rather new championship. Currently being in its third season it is the youngest of the three FIA-acknowledged World Championships, the other two being the World Rally Championship and the Formula 1. However, this doesn't mean the WTCC lacks history. The WTCC is an evolution of the ETCC, the European Touring Car Championship, which had a successful history already with known drivers such as Priaulx, Rydell, Tarquini, Menu, Kox and many more. Epic battles have been fought out already, with plenty of more to come.

Following the S2000 rules, there are currently four car manufacturers involved in WTCC; Alfa Romeo, BMW, Chevrolet and Seat. Next to these four car manufacturers one can find various independent efforts, such as Honda and Peugeot. Driven by legends famous in the touring car-scene these cars ensure for some proper on-track battling, which is also a key ingredient in RACE 07 - The Official WTCC game.
