Oschersleben's fairly flat contours create a smooth
and fast circuit, but with two key corners to master for a
really fast lap. Not a circuit to relax on - it's hard work to
drive consistently fast. The racetrack is 3,667 meters long with a width
of 11 - 13 meters and has a difference in height of
about 23 meters. The fastest place is at the end of
the finish straight.
Most drivers mention the "McDonalds chikane" when
asked about the most prominent feature of this track.
It's a great example of a real drivers chikane
where an agressive line can earn you an advantage. The
chikane is not as tight and slow as most modern
chikanes, so it allows for different lines and for
variety in how agressive you want to attack it... but an
agressive line also means your race might end early with
a broken suspension. It's your decision!

“During the
practice
sessions it
was raining
and we had
some
problems
with ourwet
tyres, which
we changed.
Qualifying
was a little
bit strange
because it
waswet at
the
beginning
and became
dry. I was a
little bit
lucky
because
after the
last red
flag I did a
not-perfect
but good lap
and being
one of the
last to go
out Ihad a
completely
clear track
ahead of me
which helped
greatly.
Whatever
theweather
tomorrow I
hope it is
constant. I
would prefer
to race in
the sun;
that way it
is better
for the
spectators
too.”

“it
was
about
having
good
track
position,
a
clear
lap
and
a
good
car
under
you.
In
the
busy
conditions
you
have
to
drive
the
car
as
best
you
can
without
making
a
mistake.
The
question
is,
‘do
you
push
to
the
maximum
and
risk
throwing
it
off
and
losing
everything?’
It
is a
matter
of
measuring
you
approach.
Most
of
us
probably
gave
it
our
best
shot
and
worried
about
the
consequences
later
which
was
an
approach
that
paid
off
for
me.”

“The
BMWs
were
situated
at
the

of
the
pit
lane
and
as a
result
they
were
able
to
sit
with
their

warmers
on
until
the
last
minute
before
heading
straight
out
with
hotter
tyres
than
us.”
